Georgia Bioscience Technology Institute
The Georgia Bioscience Technology Institute (GBTI) was established as a collaborative effort between the Biotechnology Program at Athens Technical College and the Bioscience Program at Gwinnett Technical College to prepare students for work in the life science industries, and to build up these industries within the state of Georgia. Upon the program’s inception in January 2008, Sliced Bread was selected to provide branding and marketing services in order to recruit applicants within the Greater Athens and Gwinnett County areas.
The process began with establishing an identity for GBTI, which included the design of an eye-catching logo and a powerful tagline. Website and promotional/collateral materials design came next and were developed concurrently, as heavy copywriting and consultation with program directors were required to present GBTI in the correct fashion.
In the spring of 2009, a marketing plan and budget for a fall enrollment campaign was developed and involved website improvements, integration of short promotional videos, and an advertising campaign for print, web and TV designed to promote various fields in which GBTI graduates could expect to work – biofuels, forensics, and pharmaceuticals. Online marketing through Google™ Adwords® and Facebook rounded out the campaign, which was launched in June 2009. GBTI’s next marketing push will be early 2010, when they plan to add two more program hubs at Augusta Technical College and Valdosta Technical College.
